Community Information Centre
and Police Post

This exciting new venture will be opening on Tuesday 1st December 2009, at 8 Market Square, South Petherton. There are several planned uses for this Centre:

If you would like to volunteer to help man this Centre then please come to just one of the following meetings: Friday 20th November 2pm-4pm Blake Hall
Monday 23rd November 9.30am-11.30am Blake Hall
(end times are approx but will not run longer than scheduled)

If you are unable to attend either meeting then please post your details through the office door and I will contact you.  Further details about the opening ceremony will be put in the office windows.

If you run a club or organisation in the Parish and would like the information held in the Centre so that any enquiries could be answered or passed on to you, then please either e-mail the information to suewallis@orbis-worldwide.com or drop the details through the office door.

The Blake Hall

Blake Hall Roof Refurbishment Fund

In order to reach the target needed a monthly event is planned to take place on the SECOND THURSDAY of each month. The next event is:

Friday November 27th: 10am - 12 noon (Extra Event – Workshop)

Angie Blackwell from Cottage Flowers of Ilminster will be running a ' Christmas Door Wreath Floral Workshop'. Participants will learn how to make a Christmas door wreath to take home with them. The wreath, greenery, wire and ribbon will be provided but own decorations may be used. The workshop will end with a demonstration of how to make a table advent ring arrangement. Coffee and cake will be provided.

Yeovil Chamber Choir Concert

Saturday 21st November 2009

The choir will be giving a concert at St. Peter & St. Paul's Church, starting at 7.30pm. The programme features one of Haydn's most popular works, the Nelson Mass. In addition, there will be a selection of shorter pieces from various composers, including Brahms, Fauré, Rachmaninov and Monteverdi.

Tickets are reasonably priced at £8, with under 16s free, and are available from N&D News or on the door. There will be an interval with refreshments, and you can be assured of an excellent evening's entertainment.


SOUTH PETHERTON COMBINED ARTS CHOIR

♫♫      Christmas Concert 12 December 2009    ♫♫

The Combined Arts Choir will be presenting its popular Concert of Christmas Music on Saturday 12 December at 7.00 pm in the Parish Church. The Choir will be singing both familiar and new carols, and of course there will be audience participation too!  Tickets are £7.50 (including a glass of wine and mince pie), available from R & D News, or Choir members.

Thorney to Westport Nippy Bus Walk

Meet at 10.10am, the Bus leaves promptly - Start and Finish at Prigg Lane 'Long Stay' Car Park. Prigg Lane is opposite South Petherton Library.

A maximum of 14 at a time may join this, just over four-mile walk that takes in a large section of the disused Westport Canal. The route takes you along the River Parrett, the River Isle and the Westport Canal where it is not difficult to visualise horses, barges and bargemen plying their trade in the seventeen and eighteen hundreds. There is a mixture of Stiles, Kissing and Bristol Gates and very little road walking, sections can be extremely muddy after heavy rainfall. After refreshments the Nippy Bus will collect us around 2.00pm, and return us to South Petherton. We are required to advise Nippy of numbers travelling. Please phone or email the day before if you would like to be included. Car share may be possible for those who cannot find a seat on the bus.

Adult fares are £3.25 single, £4.50 return. Over 60? Free Bus passes do apply.
Boots always advisable, wellies if the previous days have been wet


BEEKEEPING An Introductory Course

A theory course of six lectures aimed at people who are considering taking up the craft of beekeeping or who have only fairly recently obtained their own bees.  The course will cover: the honey bee life cycle, hive design, equipment, colony management, swarming and hive products and will provide a firm base from which to increase knowledge of the craft.

Venue:  Over Stratton Village Hall, near South Petherton  -  7.30pm - 9.30pm.
Dates:  The following Fridays in 2009: 20, 27 November 2009
Tutor:   Malcolm Blake - Vice President, Somerset Beekeepers’ Association.
Fee:        In advance - £5, for beekeeping association (BKA) members, £10 for others.

Local Development Framework

A number of people have asked about how to find out more about the Local Development Framework.

The target completion date for the Local Development Framework is 2011 and SSDC have started an evidence gathering process and to see more about this you can go to the SSDC website and looking under Planning Policy for 'Documents Supporting the LDF'
